Understand the difference between Lumineers and Veneers and their costs.
Ever desired to have a ‘Hollywood smile’ like Bradley Cooper or Megan Fox? Hollywood celebrities are known to make knees weak with their beautiful smiles and flawlessly shaped & bright teeth. However, it should be noted that these days, every person can achieve that ‘Hollywood smile’ with the help of dental veneers or Lumineers.
These are thin, natural-looking porcelain shells place over the top of teeth to give an aesthetic uplift to your smile. The cosmetic benefits of using dental veneer or Lumineer include covering up stains, gaps, discoloration, cracked or chipped teeth and misaligned teeth.
Difference between Lumineers and Veneers
Dental veneers are used to address and discoloration or tooth shape problems. Veneers are thin porcelain covers placed over the front side of the teeth.
Lumineers are a specific brand of veneers. One must consult the dental expert to know whether veneer or Lumineer is the right solution. Lumineers are a great alternative to both dentists and patents as they need minimal preparation. Tooth preservation offered by Lumineers is a key difference between lumineers and veneers.
Costs involved in Dental Veneers and Lumineers?
Many patients have this question – “Are Lumineers cheaper than veneers?” Conventional porcelain veneers are approximately 0.5 mm thick and patients generally have to pay anywhere between $500-$1,100 or more per tooth. In case a patient goes for four upper front teeth, the cost may go up to $2,000-$4,500.
In the case of Lumineers, which are like a contact lens of 0.2 mm to 0.3 mm thickness, the cost per tooth can fall between $700-$1,300 per tooth. For a set of four upper front teeth, the overall cost can range between $2,800-$5,500.
In the case of veneers, the dentist may remove 0.5 mm of surface tooth enamel, place light-activated cement on it for custom-made covers to stick on it. This procedure may take up to 2-3 dentist visits. If such veneers are removed, the surface needs to be covered with some dental material.
On the other hand, Lumineers are thin and can be placed without the need for shaving the tooth enamel and without any needles or shots. This procedure may also take a minimum of 2 dental visits. This dental procedure is reversible and Lumineers can be removed without having to recover the tooth. It should be noted that this method is not possible in case of misaligned, crooked or buck teeth. In some cases, numbing injections and enamel shaving might be needed.
The answer to the question – ‘Are Lumineers cheaper than veneers?’ Is that Lumineers are slightly on the higher side when the cost is concerned.
Many dentists recommend temporary veneers which are fixed at an extra cost. Other charges include the dentist’s fee during the initial visits, which can be ($50-$350). Extra procedures like X-rays are also added to overall costs. Veneers typically last for 5-10 years and need replacement after that.
Dental veneers and Lumineers are cosmetic treatment and most of the dental insurance service providers will not cover its cost. Dental insurance generally pays for procedures that are necessary and not elective. However, some dentists have affordable financing plans which can be opted. The dentists may also suggest alternative treatments if the cost of veneer or Lumineer is exorbitant for patients.
